Why Is North Houston Hazy and Smells Like Smoke?

If you live in North Houston and are wondering why it's hazy outside and smells like smoke, don't be worried! Controlled burns are being conducted near the north end of Lake Conroe and Walker County by the U.S Forest Service. The service is burning about 1,000 acres.

According to the National Forests & Grasslands in Texas website:

Controlled fires not only reduce fuel accumulations that might contribute to a catastrophic wildfire, they reduce the height of shrubs and bring new plant growth back down within the reach of foraging deer.
The bottom line is that smoke is a short term inconvenience that results in a long term gain – keeping East Texas the way we like it – and that’s the reason we live here.
