Cornyn Statement Following Major Disaster Declaration for Bastrop County

Today I issued this statement after President Obama issued a major disaster declaration for Bastrop County following the recent devastating wildfires:

Last night FEMA announced that much needed relief is on its way for Bastrop County. There is a lot of hard work ahead of us, but aid is on the way for some of those Texans who need it most right now.

Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) and I sent a letter Thursday to President Barack Obama urging him to approve Gov. Rick Perry’s request for an amended Federal Disaster Declaration.

Affected Texans in Bastrop County can begin the disaster application process by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). More information can be found on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) website here.
