CPAC 2011 - Congressman Rick Santorum - Never Back Away from Social Issues

Congressman Rick Santorum talked about American exceptionalism. Said Obama really does not belive American is exceptional. Criticized the Obama apology tour.

Talks about turning our backs on our allies. The worst was turning our back on the revolutionaries in Iran. Obama did not call the powers in Iran to step down. He sided with the people in power, our enemies. Now he sides with the protesters instead of our ally.

What message are we sending to our enemies and our allies?

Obama will not do what Reagan did - Call evil evil.

Obama won't say that jihadism is evil. He won't even say the word terrorism.

American is exceptional not just because we are a force for good in the world. We are exceptional because of freedom and opportunity; because we trust in people.

How many jobs would be created if we eliminated that 99th week of unemployment. My grandfather did not migrate to this country because of unemployement benefits. He came because of opportunity.

America is a great morale enterprise. Social issues matter. These are the issues we must not back away from.

The judiciary did not create life or marriage. It has no right to define either one. America belongs to God and we are stewards of that great gift.

Some see America as less than perfect, or even darn right imperfect. I disagree. We are blessed to be here.

There are lots of problems in America, but we are here at a time where we are blessed to be able to care for her. We are at a crossroads in American history. Grandkids will ask you, "Were you there? What did you do?"

Put on your cap of citizenship and go out and fight for the greatest country in the world.

QUESTIONS:

Q. Do you think states should pass laws about life that contradict the Supreme Court?

A. Yes. There are three branches of government. States created the government, not the other way around. They have the right to challenge the Supreme Court. Even Congress can create laws contrary to the Supreme Court.

Q. Ready to fight, but how will we know when we have won?

A. Eliminate Obamacare, redifine the size and scope of government, get courts to back away from "social issues". Let the people make these decisions through legislation and constitutional amendments.

Q. Military is getting cuts in benefits. What do you think of these cutbacks and in the cuts in the size of the national guard and military?

A. Governments first responsibility is the defense of this country. We must focus on what is unique to federal responsibility.
