Dobbs: I'm Latinos' greatest friend

Politico reports that Lou Dobbs is brooding over a run for President in 2012. Finally realizing that his past harsh anti-immigration rhetoric could threaten his political aspirations, Dobbs has softened his rhetoric, telling viewers during an interview with the Spanish-speaking network Telemundo that "I am one of your greatest friends."

“I want to engage in a meaningful and constructive dialogue and work with those who will work toward real solutions,” said Dobbs, who once falsely accused illegal immigrants of carrying leprosy into the United States.
“I think we need to honestly come together. … and make some real progress toward an understanding a compromise for those who are in this country illegally,” he said. “What isn't working is a penalty to those who are in this country illegally for whom we can both be building a bridge to the future in which there is legalization and at the same time constructing an environment in which everyone is clear and unequivocal about the need for border security and a regulated flow of immigration.”

Dobbs then went us to make a plea to the Hispanic community urging them to reconsider any views they may have had of him in the past.

“Whatever you have thought of me in the past,” he said, “I can tell you right now that I am one of your greatest friends, and I mean for us to work together.”

Texas GOP Vote previously wrote that perhaps Dobbs realized that his harsh immigration rhetoric was out of touch with today's GOP, a statement that created a lot of controversy amongst Texas GOP Vote fans and followers. Well it looks like Dobbs has just proven our point!

Finally Dobbs is showing some common sense now that he no longer has to inflame the issue to keep his ratings up. Being anti -illegal immigation was never a policy anymore than being anti-crime. The real question is how do we adress the problem effectively and construtively and that all involves some form of immigration reform.
