Better in Texas

During this state work period, I've been hearing from Texans on all sorts of issues. Here are some of the things I've been doing:

I traveled to Midland to learn more about how we can keep improving roads, schools, health care, workforce training, and affordable housing options for families in the Permian Basin. It was great talking with folks like Mayor Morales, TxDOT Chairman Bruce Bugg, and former Commerce Secretary Don Evans about how we can best support Texans in this fast-growing region

I also headed to San Angelo to visit with veterans and help open a new VA clinic there. The new facility is twice as big as the previous clinic and will help the VA serve even more West Texas veterans. While there, I had the opportunity to sit down with a number of San Angelo veterans to hear about their experiences with the VA health care system and their hopes for the new facility.

I invited Attorney General William Barr to come to Dallas to hear firsthand how the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative has worked to begin driving down crime rates in the Forest-Audelia and Five Points communities. This program, which was authorized by a bill I authored in the Senate that is now a law, partners local, state, and federal law enforcement with federal prosecutors to target violent offenders, engage with the community, and create safer neighborhoods.

I hope you've all enjoyed your summer as much as I have. Come September, I'll be headed back to Washington – with the ideas I heard from constituents this month in tow - to fight for issues that matter to Texans.
