Brownsville Secures Grant for Transportation Improvements

The City of Brownsville has received a $10 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to improve the city’s bus and bicycle and pedestrian systems.

I want to congratulate Brownsville’s city leaders for their hard work and commitment to these important infrastructure projects, which now are one big step closer to reality. The bus system upgrades and the pedestrian bridge between South Padre Island and Port Isabel will have far reaching impacts on not only Brownsville, but the entire coastal region.

Background on the TIGER Grant Program:

The Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant program within the U.S. Department of Transportation allows communities to apply for grant funding to help finance infrastructure improvement projects that generate economic development and improve access to reliable, safe and affordable transportation options. More information about the projects funded by Brownsville’s TIGER grant is available here.
