Congressman Neugebauer Responds to the State of the Union

Tonight, we heard more of the same from the President. Although he talked about a commitment to job creation, he’s not encouraging Senate action on critical jobs bills passed by the House of Representatives. And while he paid lip service to an all-of-the-above energy approach, he has refused to act on the Keystone XL pipeline, which would bring valuable energy and jobs to Texas.

Meanwhile, his Administration is pushing forward on costly regulations that haven’t been justified by scientific reviews. He defended Obamacare, but didn’t provide any hope to all the families that have lost coverage or are struggling with higher costs because of this flawed plan.

The President said, "whenever I can take steps without legislation... that’s what I’m going to do." But Americans deserve better than unilateral action—they deserve to be fully represented through the democratic process.

When I talk to my constituents in West Texas, they don’t want more rhetoric and empty promises. They want a government that is transparent and accountable to the people, like our Founders intended. Six years of big government haven’t brought about any positive changes. It’s time to return control to the people.
