Fighting for Texas
It’s always a great day when I get a visit from Texas students! This week, over 100 students from The John Cooper School in The Woodlands, Texas came for their annual DC field trip. I showed them around the Ways and Means Committee hearing room and answered the questions they had about the legislative process and what inspired me to enter public service.
FIGHTING FOR TEXAS
Texas Central Rail (TCR) recently petitioned to have the U.S. Surface Transportation Board re-evaluate its authority over the High-Speed Rail project between Houston and Dallas. The only reason TCR is trying to reverse the U.S. Surface Transportation Board's earlier denial is so Washington can impose land-grabbing eminent domain on Texas landowners - force them to sell their family land against their will. I’m fighting them.
GOVERNMENT TAKEOVER
This week, I asked Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal to hold a full committee hearing on the proposed “Medicare For All” act. Medicare for all is nothing short of a frightening government takeover of health care. It would strip existing healthcare plans from millions of Americans and limit access to local doctors and hospitals. Not to mention the insane price tag – $32 Trillion – that would mean doubling every American’s taxes.
POTENTIAL FALLOUT
The potential economic fallout from the Paris Agreement is devastating, and it remains an ineffective and costly agreement that fails to provide significant environmental benefits. While we all agree that we need to find smarter ways to lower emissions and ensure clean air and water for future generations, these actions must take into consideration potential impacts on American jobs and the economy.
