Hurd Announces AmeriCorps Grant for Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Tribe in El Paso

I recently announced the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo Tribe in El Paso will receive a grant of more than $56,000 from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency responsible for AmeriCorps and other national service programs.

AmeriCorps is a proven program that provides resources to encourage service opportunities to help communities nationwide. This grant will allow the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo members participating in the program to increase economic opportunity in the area by engaging in workforce and education programs. Not only does their service benefit the community, but AmeriCorps also provides the participants with funds to use toward higher education or student loans after their tenure.

Through the AmeriCorps program, the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo will have 10 half time AmeriCorps members who will provide AmeriCorps service opportunities, including Nation Building, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services, Financial Literacy, Cultural and Historic Education, and Economic Development in Ysleta del Sur Pueblo and El Paso County.
