Need Some Inspiration in 2020? Look No Further Than Houston, Texas and Construction
The American dream is alive and well in the Houston construction industry, as evidenced by the inspiring story of Stacia Brightmon, a single mother of two boys in Houston who is now working for S&B Engineers and Constructors as a warehouse receiving clerk.
Finding herself without a job after serving our country as a marine and obtaining a finance degree, she heard about S&B’s "Women in Construction, Earn While You Learn" apprenticeship program through the Texas Workforce Commission.

Stacia expressed her gratitude to President Donald Trump for initiatives his administration has taken to help Americans access training and acquire the skills necessary to find careers in industries in need of workforce.
“I learned what President Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump were doing behind the scenes to make sure that people like me and you had a chance to rise up and succeed. President Trump started the National Council for the American Worker and the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board. Together with Ivanka, he wrote policies that made it easier for states and companies to give opportunities to hardworking Americans like me. The president and Ivanka also partnered with the Ag Council to launch FindSomethingNew.org, helping to connect workers with training and apprentice programs where they live,” she said.
Is it any surprise that Stacia found work in Houston, Texas and in the construction industry? Houston is filled with employers like S&B, who actively engage in providing accessible training programs that lead to lifelong careers for anyone who is willing to work hard, show up on time, and pass a drug test. I am blessed to handle the insurance for many of them!
The local chapters of our construction associations, AGC, ABC, and ASA are all actively engaged with programs and efforts to develop a sustainable construction workforce. The Construction Career Collaborative (C3), an alliance of business owners and contractors who are committed to developing a safe, skilled, and sustainable craft workforce was founded right here in Houston!
There is no telling what our construction industry could do with thousands of Stacias! God bless her, President Trump, S&B, and all the Houston area contractors that are investing in and providing opportunities for their employees and our future workforce!
God bless America!
