Pete Sessions Statement on the October Unemployment Report

While today’s job report showed that some Americans have been able to find work, there are still indicators that President Obama’s big-government, liberal agenda is not working, which is why we must do more to spur economic growth. Just last week the government reported that economic growth slowed to 1.5 percent in the third quarter from 3.9 percent in the second quarter. In addition, job creation has slowed approximately 21 percent compared to last year, we continue to face historically high numbers of long-term unemployment, and the labor force participation rate is at its lowest point since 1977.

These numbers are evidence that more regulation and more government constrain job growth and hold back our already sluggish economy. We can and must take effective measures to unleash the free enterprise system from the shackles of regulatory burdens and put our nation back on the path towards American exceptionalism. I will continue to fight against the liberal Democrat agenda, get government out of the way, and give hardworking Americans the opportunities they need and deserve to achieve the American dream.”
