Rep. Wesley Hunt Statement on the Passage of the Water Resources Development Act of 2024

H.R. 8812 - The Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA) passed the United States House of Representatives, which included a key provision directing the United States Army Corps of Engineers to complete the Buffalo Bayou Tributaries Resiliency Study (BBTRS).

This provision, inserted into WRDA 2024 by Congresswoman Fletcher and Congressman Hunt, is the final step before construction of a viable flood mitigation project can be completed to effectively end flooding in Houston once and for all.  The provision, Sec. 336, can be found in the bill here

"I would like to thank my colleague Congresswoman Fletcher for her continued support in helping our Houston delegation combat this prevalent issue affecting all Houstonians,"  said Hunt.  "Ever since I was a child, I remember the disastrous effects flooding has had on our city, and I'm grateful of my colleagues on both the right, and the left side of the aisle for coming together to aid in putting an end to flooding in Houston."
