Starting Work on FAA Reform

This week, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) will examine and markup, H.R. 2997, the 21st Century AIRR Act. This bipartisan bill, introduced by T&I Chairman Bill Shuster, comprehensively reforms the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to put America first, protect passenger rights and modernize aviation systems to improve everyone's flying experience.

Among other things, this bill will:

-Protect American jobs by cutting red tape to allow American aviation companies to bring products to market faster, stay competitive and keep jobs at home.

-Put consumers first by ensuring passengers can't be bumped once they have already boarded the plane, increasing transparency in airline ticket pricing and requiring airlines to be more responsive to customer complaints and needs.

-Examine and implement strategies to increase the travel experience for passengers with disabilities including increase staff training and in-cabin wheelchair restraints.

-Maintain and strengthen the Federal Contract Tower Program, which provides air traffic control services at rural and remote airports to ensure these communities have uninterrupted service.

-Modernize air traffic control systems to ensure more on-time departures, better routes and less time sitting on the tarmac.
