Veterans Entrepreneurship Act Passes House

Last week, I voted in support of legislation that will assist veterans, as well as strengthen our economy. H.R. 2499, the Veterans Entrepreneurship Act, was approved by the House to help veterans who want to start a small business. The bill makes it easier for veterans to get the capital needed to start a business by waiving the upfront guarantee fee on SBA Express Loans. It is increasingly important that we continue to bolster the economy, and what better way than to work with some of the nation’s most trusted and hardest working Americans? This is just one of a dozen bills I have supported this year to give back to America’s heroes in honor of the sacrifices they have made to protect our country. Other important veterans’ bills of note that I support include:

H.R. 22, The Hire More Heroes Act of 2015. This legislation greatly increases the ability for employers to hire veterans that receive healthcare provided by the Department of Defense and the Veterans Affairs Administration in accordance to the employer mandate portion of Obamacare.

H.R. 1816, Vulnerable Veterans Housing Reform Act. Excludes payments made to veterans’ health-care providers for in-home health aid, assisted living, and nursing home expenses from counting toward the veterans’ gross income for purposes of determining eligibility for Section 8 voucher and public housing.

H.R. 216, Department of Veterans Affairs Budget Planning Reform Act. This authorizes the Secretary of the VA to recoup bonuses and awards paid to 304 employees of the Department. Many were senior managers ignoring or fostering, mismanagement and negligence at VA medical facilities and in Regional Offices.
