Limiting the Federal Footprint in our Nation’s Classrooms
When it comes to our children’s education, I have always believed that we need to roll back Washington’s involvement in our classrooms. Since the deeply flawed No Child Left Behind Act – which I voted against – was implemented we have seen student achievement in math and reading sharply decline. American students are falling behind and more federal regulations are the problem, not the answer.
While I believe we still have more work to do, the Every Student Succeeds Act is an important step toward limiting the power of Washington and returning educational control to the states. This legislation eliminates No Child Left Behind, puts an end to the federal government’s ability to push academic standards like Common Core, and returns power back to the states and local school districts. Our students deserve the opportunity to receive the best education possible and this legislation will put our students on the path towards a brighter future.
