School Choice Is the Civil Rights Issue of the 21st Century

In conjunction with National School Choice Week, Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and I introduced the Creating Hope and Opportunity for Individuals and Communities Through Education Act (CHOICE Act).
School choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st century. An excellent education is the gateway to the American dream. Every single student, regardless of ethnicity and zip code, deserves the opportunity to achieve that dream. I’m grateful for Sen. Scott’s commitment to school choice, and am proud to work with him on this important issue.
“In every county, across every zip-code, in every state, access to quality education is the greatest gift we can pass down to the next generation. At the end of the day, it is free thought and a hunger for learning that can never be taken away from a child. As a part of my America 2030 agenda, I am proud to introduce a school-choice bill which ensures that our children, military families, and low-income students are fully equipped to enter the workforce and become productive members of society. I look forward to seeing the CHOICE Act passed and implemented to enrich the lives of millions of students across the country,” Sen. Scott said.
The CHOICE Act would give military families, families of students with disabilities, and low-income students in Washington, D.C.—together totaling more than 6.2 million students nationwide—access to greater educational opportunity.
The CHOICE Act is co-sponsored by Leader McConnell (R-Ky.), Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), and Roger Wicker (Miss.).
