Sen. Cruz: ‘There is a Renewed Sense of Urgency to Empower Families and Give Children an Opportunity to Achieve the American Dream’

I joined Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) in cosponsoring a bipartisan resolution declaring this week ‘National School Choice Week.’ I also praised Texans celebrating student opportunity and school choice at the over 3,900 school choice events across the Lone Star state.

Every child in America has the right to have access to a quality education, regardless of race, ethnicity, wealth, and zip code. If you’re a child in this country, you deserve a quality education. In Texas, and across the country, there is a renewed sense of urgency to empower families and give children an opportunity to achieve the American Dream.

Last week, I delivered remarks at a rally to celebrate the annual kick off of National School Choice week. In December, my Student Opportunity Amendment was signed into law as a part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The amendment expands 529 College Savings plans to include K-12 elementary and secondary school tuition for public, private, and religious schools.

The National School Choice Week Resolution is cosponsored by Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Richard Burr (R-N.C.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), David Perdue (R-Ga.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), and Todd Young (R-Ind.).
