Greatest Danger to the World?

The ink has not even dried on the President’s reckless nuclear deal with Iran and Tehran is already testing the limits. According to reports, Iran tested a long-range ballistic missile over the weekend, which some argue may have violated a U.N. Security Council resolution. Whether or not Iran skirted around the technical terms of the deal to do this, it is sending the signal quite clearly: this agreement, or lack thereof, means absolutely nothing. The Ayatollah and its lawless regime are hell-bent on becoming the greatest danger to the world as they chant "Death to America" and "Death to Israel."

Iran is the world's leading State Sponsor of Terrorism. It funds and controls terrorists groups like Hezbollah, and its tentacles stretch all over the world, far beyond the Middle East. Many of its activities are done through the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which has funded, planned and executed terrorist attacks in the U.S. and elsewhere for decades. Somehow this group has managed to escape repercussions and the U.S. has never recognized it as a terrorist organization. I’m working to change that. I introduced HR 3693, the IRGC Terrorist Sanctions Act of 2015. This bill will require the Department of Treasury, which has jurisdiction to impose these sanctions, to report to Congress whether the IRGC should be designated as a terrorist entity. I think we already know the report’s conclusion: the IRGC must be labeled as a designated foreign terrorist organization. It's time to close loopholes like these that allow terrorist-affiliated groups to continue their reign.

Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps organizes terrorist attacks around the world.

Meanwhile, Tehran will receive billions of dollars when sanctions are lifted. That money will no doubt be used to finance its terrorist attacks worldwide. It will also be allowed to export crude oil, further boosting its economy. Ironically, the Administration allows our enemies to export their crude oil, but prohibits U.S. companies from exporting our own. Last week, the House acted to change that and passed H.R. 702, with my support. This bipartisan bill repeals the statutory ban on U.S. exports of crude oil. It’s time for the Senate to take up this legislation and send it to the White House despite the President’s veto threat. After all, we’d just be giving America the same deal as Iran. Utilizing our own resources will grow our economy, create jobs, and help make Middle Eastern politics irrelevant.

Visiting the Port of Houston as co-chair of the Congressional PORTS Caucus. The Port of Houston is the world's largest export with an emphasis on petrochemical and energy goods, lifting the ban on U.S. crude oil exports will bring jobs to Houston and increase our national security.
