Cornyn Passes Resolution to Honor Hispanic-Serving Institutions

At the start of Hispanic Heritage Month, I introduced and passed a Senate resolution recognizing the work, goals, and achievements of more than 490 non-profit Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) throughout the nation by designating the week of September 17-23 as "National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week."

In Texas, one in three individuals identify as Hispanic, and I am proud to celebrate Hispanic-Serving Institutions and their support of our state’s growing Hispanic community. Quality education and diverse environments benefit everyone, and I applaud these institutions for their contributions to Texas.

HSIs are defined as degree-granting institutions where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes at least 25 percent of the total enrollment.  Texas is home to 90 HSIs.

Additional cosponsors of the resolution include Senators Michael F. Bennet (D-CO), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Dean Heller (R-NV), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Patty Murray (D-WA), and Bill Nelson (D-FL).

Full text of the resolution can be found here.
