Cornyn Releases Letter to Texans in Advance of Tet Nguyen Dan

I released the following open letter to Texans in honor of Tet Nguyen Dan, the Vietnamese celebration of the Lunar New Year:

Dear Fellow Texans:

Tet Nguyen Dan marks the beginning of a new year and the opportunity for a fresh start.

Millions of Vietnamese - including those in Texas - gather with close family to honor their ancestors and celebrate new life.  The old and young come together for traditions and games, homemade food and a clean home.

As your U.S. Senator, I am proud to represent so many Vietnamese-Americans in Texas.  In fact, one of my favorite facts about Texas is that Vietnamese is the third most popular spoken language in our state, after English and Spanish.  That always stumps newcomers!  I was honored to celebrate Vietnamese heritage at the Children’s Mid-Autumn Festival at Cali Saigon Mall in Garland this September, and I always appreciate the delegation of Vietnamese Texans that come to Washington each year for Vietnam Advocacy Day.  In this new year, I pledge to continue to fight for human rights and freedom in Vietnam and for a stronger relationship between our two nations.

As you celebrate Tet, my wife, Sandy, and I wish you peace, joy, and prosperity at the beginning of this new year.

God Bless you all, and may He continue to Bless the great state of Texas.
