Disaster Relief - Helping Those in Need

Please join me in supporting and praying for the victims of the recent storms that swept through North Texas the evening of December 26. Regarding Collin County, the preliminary assessment is that an EF-2 struck the Copeville area, and an EF-1 struck the Blue Ridge area. Judge Self has signed a Disaster Declaration and forwarded it to the Governor.

While we are still surveying the damage and verifying the losses, the Collin County Deputies Association is reporting that a Sheriff's Deputy and two Detention Officers are among those who have lost their homes in the storm. Tragically, they have also reported that one of our Dispatchers with the Sheriff's Office has lost her life.

There are many ways to help, including donations to the Red Cross, Minuteman Disaster Response and/or other local organizations. The Collin County Deputies Association is in the process of setting up an account to assist the families of our first responders during their time of need. 100% of all donations received will go to assist these first responders and their immediate families. Please monitor the CCDA Facebook page for the latest information. In the mean time, checks (with the memo listed as "Disaster Relief") may be mailed to the CCDA - PO Box 2232 McKinney, TX 75069. I will also personally pick up donations, if needed. You may reach me directly at 469-343-2166.

In addition, the North Texas REALTORS in Action Foundation (a 501 c(3) organization created this year by the Collin County Association of REALTORS to assist in situations such as this) has requested donations to assist in the recovery. If you would like to donate any of the following items, I will see to it that they are picked up - or, you may drop them off at the Celina Fire Station or the Precinct 4 Constable's office in Frisco. The items requested are:

  • personal hygiene supplies
  • baby food/formula
  • diapers (all sizes)
  • plastic totes (mid-size)
  • boxes (small to mid-size)
  • heavy-duty trash bags
  • work gloves
  • masks
  • eye protection
  • water boots
  • gift cards to Wal- Mart or Target
  • blankets
  • flashlights
  • batteries
  • socks
  • water

Checks should be made payable to "North Texas REALTORS® in Action Foundation" and indicate "Tornado Damage Assistance" in the memo line. Checks may be mailed or delivered to CCAR - 6821 Coit Road, Plano, TX 75024. 100% of what is donated for Tornado Damage Assistance will go to those affected. If you know of someone who has been impacted by the tornadoes and in need of assistance, please send an e-mail to [email protected].
