Holiday Travel Update: Information for Constituents on Passport Service Delays

As many folks are preparing for travel plans over the holidays, please keep in mind that the U.S. Department of State is not currently able to process passport applications at the same rate as before the pandemic.

Below are some updates regarding passport processing information.

• Routine processing now takes 8-11 weeks, and expedited processing (for an additional $60) takes 5-7 weeks.
• Processing times now begin the day your application is received at an agency or center.
• Mail times vary across the country, so it is recommended to plan ahead and apply early.
• You can check your application status using the Online Passport Status System. It may take up to 2 weeks from the day your application is received before it shows a status of “in process” online.
