Red Cross Shelter Information for North Texas

In light of the recent severe weather in North Texas, Governor Abbott has sent Task Force 1 to provide assistance to the affected areas. Here is information provided by the Red Cross regarding shelters in Rowlett and Garland as well as ways you can help North Texans who have been affected by this devastating storm.

SHELTER LOCATIONS:

ROWLETT: Steadham Elementary School, 6200 Danridge Road, Rowlett, Texas

MIDLOTHIAN: Longbranch Elementary, 6631 FM 1387, Midlothian, Texas

GARLAND: Gale Field Recreation Center, 1701 Dairy Road, Garland, Texas

Anyone who has been impacted by the storms in those general areas is urged to come to the shelter for a safe place to stay.

In the morning, the Red Cross will begin conducting a damage assessment to start to get an understanding of how much damage was caused by the storms and the types of help each family will need. Making sure safe shelters are available is always the first priority for the American Red Cross after storms, followed by services in the coming days. Tomorrow, depending on weather elements, the American Red Cross will be fanned out across multiple counties to distribute clean-up supplies such as tarps, shovels, rakes, work gloves, trash bags, etc. to help families begin to sift through their belongings and salvage what they can. Additionally, Red Cross shelter teams will continue to provide safe locations until they’re no longer needed.

With flood threats throughout much of the area for Sunday, North Texans are urged to remain weather aware. The Red Cross will be posting critical response information and safety tips on our twitter feed @RedCrossDFW.

North Texans looking for loved ones who haven’t been able to reach them can use the Red Cross Safe & Well site at www.safeandwell.org to initiate a search.
