Featured Voice of the Texas GOP: Blake Farenthold

Blake Farenthold is the newly elected U.S. Representative for the 27th Congressional District of Texas, kicking out longtime Democratic Representative Solomon Ortiz by fewer than 800 votes. Solomon Ortiz had been Congressman since 1983.

Due to the close vote count, Solomon Ortiz has still not conceded to Blake Farenthold and is calling for a recount. However, if the recount is carried forward, Blake Farenthold is confident he will remain the winner.

Blake Farenthold is a lifelong resident of South Texas, born and raised in Corpus Christi. He attended Incarnate Word Academy, the University of Texas at Austin where he received a BS in Radio, Television, and Film, and St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio.

Blake’s diverse career includes working as a radio disk jockey in high school and college, seven years of practicing law at the Kleberg Law Firm in Corpus Christi and founding Farenthold Consulting LLC, a computer consulting and web design firm. Though much of the business was sold, he continues to work with local businesses, improving their technology and addressing internet needs.

Until leaving to begin the campaign, Blake co-hosted Lago in the Morning, a top rated conservative talk radio program.

Blake takes an active part in the community. He served on the board of St. James Episcopal School, the Texas State Aquarium, Computer Section of the State Bar of Texas, and is on the leadership team of the Social Media Club of Corpus Christi. He also spends time refereeing basketball games and volunteering to teach computers and digital photography to senior citizens.

The Farenthold family makes their home in Corpus Christi. Blake met his wife Debbie while at college in line for tickets to a Jimmy Buffett concert. They have two daughters. Morgan attends at Texas Tech and Amanda was recently accepted to Vanderbilt.

School, Work, Family, or Play – Blake Farenthold is a man of and for South Texas.
