Amy Coney Barrett Confirmed as Next Justice of the Supreme Court
Written by Amy O'Donnell, Director of Communications
Yesterday, by a vote of 52-48, the United States Senate voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to be an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Both Texas Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz voted to confirm.
A former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, a well-respected professor at the Notre Dame Law School, and a judge on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, Barrett is highly qualified by any measure.
The following statement is attributed to Texas Alliance for Life Executive Director Dr. Joe Pojman:
Today we witnessed the historical confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court. We applaud the Republicans in the Senate Judiciary Committee and in the United States Senate for their diligence in moving President Trump's nomination forward despite bitter and disingenuous opposition. We celebrate this momentous occasion, a true victory for conservative, pro-life women everywhere.
We hope that Justice Barrett and the other justices on the Supreme Court will be willing to take a fresh look at Roe v. Wade by interpreting the Constitution as it was written, unburdened by any preconceived agenda. Unborn babies and their mothers in our nation deserve no less.
