Clinton Misled American Public on Foundation

Yesterday I appeared on Fox to discuss conflict-of-interest concerns I raised during former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s confirmation proceedings in 2009. Excerpts from my appearance are below, and video of the interview can be watched below.

Well she reassured me that there would be no conflict of interest, but as Senator Luger, who was Chairman of the Foreign Relations committee, observed, there was certainly the appearance. And I know this was a concern also shared by President Obama in the White House because they entered into a very detailed, lawyerly memorandum of understanding about what the Clinton foundation would or would not do.

We don't know what kind of communications took place with her staff and donors and the Clinton foundation. And the fact of the matter is we know they’ve had to go back and amend their tax returns because they didn’t fully disclose contributions. It is really the appearance of impropriety I think that's the problem here that contributes to this reputation that she and her husband have of untrustworthiness – people who believe that the rules don't apply to them like they apply to you and me.

I think the American people deserve to know, and I think Congress deserves to point out that the American people and indeed President Obama and his Administration itself have been misled by Secretary Clinton in terms of how the Clinton foundation would operate.
