Congressman Roy's Independence Day 2021 remarks

I released the following statement on Independence Day:

245 years ago in Philadelphia, the signers of the Declaration of Independence gathered together to absolve all allegiance to the dictatorial rule of the British domination. Fed up with the tyranny of British Crown, these men put their destiny on the line, committing themselves to the cause of freedom, to establish a government that recognizes the fundamental rights of men, endowed by our Creator.

The notion that all men are graced with equal rights by God, not bestowed by their government, is the true revolutionary significance of the Declaration of Independence. This sentiment remains applicable to all men and America’s foundational truths speak to all who strive for the common benefits of self-government.

Today, may we remember the sacrifices that were made to preserve these liberties, and reflect on the famous words of John Adams, “I am well aware of the toil, and blood, and treasure, that it will cost us to maintain this declaration, and support and defend these states. Yet, through all the gloom, I can see the rays of light and glory; I can see that the end is more than worth all the means, and that posterity will triumph.”

As we are charged with the preservation of our noble inheritance, may we rededicate ourselves to the principles of liberty and equality, espoused in our founding documents, not forgetting all who sacrificed and died to conquer tyranny, so that we may enjoy the independence of our free society.

Happy Independence Day.
