Congressman Ted Poe's Summer Wrap-Up

Over the past few weeks, I’ve traveled across the Second Congressional District to meet with and listen to neighbors’ concerns about what’s happening in Washington and around the world. Hearing what’s most important to you and your family is critical to help me better represent you in Congress. My office also held the Third Annual Honor Our Heroes event to pay tribute to local past, present and future service members. More than 300 of our neighbors came out to salute our veterans and honor their service to our nation. A few photos from Honor Our Heroes, a "Congress After Hours" and other meetings around the district are included below:

I also called 94,000 homes to participate in a telephone town hall that focused on foreign policy, including the Iran nuclear agreement. On that call, 81% of constituents told me that they oppose the agreement. I share those concerns and think this is a dangerous agreement. It abandons the Administration’s previous promises, gives Iran an international stamp of approval to enrich uranium, contains weak oversight mechanisms and lifts both economic sanctions and the arms embargo – enabling Tehran with the cash and weapons to ramp up its terrorist activity throughout the world. For more information, I’ve posted a fact sheet on my website. Congress will soon vote to approve or reject this agreement, and I will vote NO.

We enter September with the beginning of another school year (and another football season!). Congress’ agenda includes voting on the Iran Deal, next year’s funding for the federal government and a visit from Pope Francis. Pope Francis will address a Joint Session of Congress and offer a public blessing on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, September 24. My office receives a limited number of standing-only tickets for the West Lawn blessing and will conduct a lottery to distribute them. If you’d like to submit a request to attend the West Lawn blessing, please send me an email by September 4.
