Following Cornyn Request, USCIS Cancels Furloughs of More Than 13,000 Employees

Following my request that U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) delay planned furloughs and contract cancellations Friday, USCIS has announced it will cancel planned furloughs of more than 13,000 employees.

I’m glad USCIS has rethought this decision, which would have crippled our immigration system and left so many in limbo. The coronavirus pandemic already leaves us with so much uncertainty for the future, and I’m glad USCIS will continue to help families achieve the American Dream.

My letter to Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and Deputy Director for Policy of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Joseph Edlow urged the delay of planned furloughs and contract cancellations due to USCIS’s improved financial situation.
