House Passes NDAA With McCaul Provisions

Today, Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) released the following statement on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the 2023 fiscal year. The legislation passed the House with broad bipartisan support.

"Texas is home to 15 military bases and more than 150 thousand servicemen and women — the second most in the nation. This year’s NDAA will increase their pay, eliminate the president’s authoritarian COVID vaccine mandate, and address the flow of fentanyl into our nation. I was proud to vote for this bill, which exceeded the president’s national defense budget request by $45 million — sending a clear message that America still supports our troops and will never back down in the face of global threats.”

Rep. McCaul’s provisions included in the NDAA:

PEACE Through Music Diplomacy Act

“Music transcends language and culture barriers like nothing else. My bill will leverage the power of music to bring people together and advance U.S. foreign policy goals across the globe.”

Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act

"The gruesome practice of maiming sharks — often while they are still alive — and dumping them back in the ocean is not only inhumane; it’s also devastating to the marine ecosystem and harmful to the economy. I’m thankful my colleagues joined me in working to end this practice and keep sharks from extinction.”
