Hurd Announces Third Round of Housing Aid for San Antonio, El Paso, Bexar County

Today I announced the third round of grant funding totaling more than $16 million for the Cities of San Antonio and El Paso and Bexar County to address the COVID-19 pandemic. These grants will go to programs administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and are the result of the CARES Act.

State and local governments every day are faced with tough decisions about how best to help their communities in fighting the Coronavirus. These efforts are far from over, which is why I’m proud to announce more than $16 million in Community Development Block Grants for San Antonio, El Paso and Bexar County. This is the third round of funding, and it will allow our localities to maintain and improve their response efforts to combat the outbreak. We are not out of the woods with this pandemic, but, until then, relief like this will help us through.

The CARES Act, which I supported, provided $5 billion in supplemental Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), which allocate flexible funding to state and local governments for a range of services to address coronavirus impacts in housing at the community level. $2 billion in CARES Act funding for CDBG grantees was initially announced in March and the second tranche of funding was allocated in May.

The Cities of San Antonio, El Paso and Bexar County received the following amounts in this round of funding:

  • San Antonio - $10,249,127
  • El Paso - $4,121,341
  • Bexar County - $1,901,715
