McCaul Votes to Put Texas First

I, the Lead Republican on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Chairman Emeritus on the House Homeland Security Committee, released a statement on my support for H.R. 2157 – Supplemental Appropriations Act:

Every Texan knows all too well, especially after Hurricane Harvey, what it means to step up and help a fellow neighbor. Today areas of my district in Houston are experiencing heavy rains and flooding - a reminder of the upcoming hurricane season and the devastating damage that resulted from Harvey. That is why we must stand with our fellow Americans and ensure they get the vital disaster recovery funds they need.

In February of 2018, I supported and Congress appropriated $28 billion for vital Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. Of this funding, $4.383 billion of these funds were for Texas. Yet, over a year later, Texans are still waiting on these vital resources simply because HUD has not published the rules that would allow the release of these funds for our communities.

Disaster-stricken areas have been waiting far too long for these HUD funds to help our communities rebuild and mitigate future disasters. Today’s disaster relief bill includes language to expedite this funding within 14 days by requiring HUD to meet a timeline, and that is why I supported this bill.

I will always support legislation that prioritizes the needs of my district.
