Nueces County Doctors Discuss Healthcare Problems

I met with the Nueces County Medical Society last week. We are in dire need of funding to expand residency programs in South Texas. More than a dozen doctors in Corpus Christi discussed the issues they face delivering healthcare in South Texas. Shockingly, Texas is 48th in the nation in physicians per capita. Clearly, more needs to be done to improve the state’s standing in this area, such as more residency slots.

Obamacare expanded incentives for mid-level healthcare providers but did nothing to expand the incentives to become a doctor. In fact, Obamacare's excessive regulations lower compensation which discourage many Americans from becoming doctors. That is evident in Nueces County, which is in dire need of specialists and family practitioners including especially child and adolescent psychiatrists.
