Pakistan as a State Sponsor of Terrorism

For the past 15 years, our country has been asking Pakistan to go after terrorists within its own borders and for 15 years not only has Pakistan not done so in any significant way, but it has actually supported those very terrorists who kill our service men and women in Afghanistan. It is time to call it like it is: Pakistan is a Benedict Arnold ally. I plan to file a bill requiring the President to submit a report to Congress assessing whether or not the government of Pakistan directly or indirectly aided and abetted terrorism.

Based on the report’s findings, the bill requires the Secretary of State to submit either a follow-up determination that Pakistan is a State Sponsor of Terrorism or a detailed justification as to why Pakistan does not meet the legal criteria for designation. Countries should be treated based upon their actions. It’s long past time to reassess our relationship with Pakistan.
