A Passion For Liberty

Contrasting Values

Two weeks ago, the radical Islamists that Obama classifies as a ‘JV team’ attacked Brussels. They claimed 38 lives while Obama was enjoying a baseball game in Cuba with Dictator Raul Castro. Obama’s commitment that he would only travel to Cuba if he saw “some progress in the liberty and freedom there” was another vintage Obama red line in the sand. Score another Pinocchio for our Imperial President. His actions are totally consistent with the passivity, disinterest and total lack of concern he has shown in defeating this scourge which threatens the Middle East and the Western World. Obama continues to snub our allies while he embraces the vilest of dictators. On January 11, 2015, in Paris, France, over 40 world leaders, including British Prime Minister David Cameron, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and Prime Minister Netanyahu of Israel, joined over 1,500,000 people in a show of support and solidarity, honoring those killed by Islamic terrorists the week before. Barack Obama’s absence was not surprising for a man who cannot even utter the words, “radical Islamic extremism.”

Ted Cruz’s Common Sense

Senator Cruz stated, “We need additional police patrols in Muslim neighborhoods to root out the jihadists who are killing and attacking people and giving the religion of peace a bad name.” Obama’s illogical retort claimed the approach would single out and target Muslims for discrimination. He further classified it as “un-American” and “counterproductive,” while pontificating that this proven deterrent to crime is “contrary to who we are.” This is the same community policing program implemented under President Bush and continued by Obama in New York. Although it was successful in stemming terror attacks, it was discontinued in the name of political correctness when Mayor Bill de Blasio cancelled it. Obama made no attempt to reinstate it.

Obama’s Rant

Obama’s disjointed rant couldn’t have been fitting without the attempt to exploit Ted’s father, Rafael Cruz. He further blasted “The notion of having surveillance (community policing) of neighborhoods where Muslims are present. I just left a country that engages in that kind of neighborhood surveillance, which, by the way, the father of Senator Cruz escaped – for America – the land of the free.” Obama obviously acknowledged that neighborhood surveillance exists in Cuba, but couldn’t muster the courage of his deficient convictions to confront Raul Castro’s multiple human rights violations. Castro set the tone for Obama’s visit by incarcerating 1,416 political prisoners in March, 498 taking place during Obama’s March 20-22 visit. Obama’s response was no response.

Victory Conference

The 2014 Denton County Lincoln Reagan Dinner, at which Senator Cruz was keynote speaker, was preceded by an elite group of conservative speakers on a variety of conservative subjects. It was the first time I had the opportunity to hear Rafael Cruz. To this day, never have I heard anyone with such a passion for liberty. This passion stemmed from the oppression and brutal beatings he endured in Cuba. The United States was his one and only refuge. It was easy to see the basis of Ted Cruz’s reverence for our founding documents. Rafael was instrumental in organizing a group of young students, including Ted at the age of 13, who memorized the Declaration of Independence and then recited it to various civic groups,

A Step Back In Time

Rafael Cruz’s speech took me back to my childhood around 1959 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. I vividly remember the deposed Cuban immigrants who fled the tyranny of the Castro regime. They displayed the same fervor for liberty that Mr. Cruz exuded that day. These brave people risked a journey as daunting as Lewis and Clark’s, hoping for the discovery and freedoms of our country. They only asked for the same unalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness that are endowed by our Creator. They assimilated very quickly and modestly, neither bemoaning the wealth Castro had stolen, nor expecting a government handout. The freedom to choose their own way of life nurtured their indomitable, unconquerable spirit.

The Tie That Binds Us

The tie that bound us and our Cuban friends was our love of liberty. They knew the desolation without it. This love of liberty is the cornerstone of the ‘Cruz for President’ campaign. After hearing Ted and Rafael Cruz speak on the same day, it was apparent that this passion for liberty is part of Ted Cruz’s DNA.

Heidi Cruz

Heidi Cruz came to the opening of our ‘Ted Cruz for President’ Wake Forest, North Carolina office. She will be a First Lady who will once again make us proud. It has been said that people will not remember what you said, or how you said it, but they will remember how you made them feel. Heidi Cruz is articulate and gracious, but most importantly, made everyone there feel that their job was the most important job in getting Ted elected. She autographed my copy of A Time for Truth with the following:

“Bill, Always Stand For Liberty!”
