Rep. Pfluger Leads Mach 1 Caucus In Demanding Accountability From U.S. Air Force For Leaking Personnel Records Of Jennifer-Ruth Green

In response to the U.S. Air Force taking responsibility for leaking the confidential personnel records of Jennifer-Ruth Green, a Veteran and candidate running in Indiana’s 1st Congressional District, Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11) led all members of the MACH 1 Caucus in sending a letter to the Inspector General of the Air Force demanding answers and accountability for the leak.

The letter is signed by all members of the MACH 1 Caucus, a group of former military pilots and current lawmakers: Rep. August Pfluger, Rep. Jake Ellzey, Rep. Mike Garcia, Rep. C. Scott Franklin, and Rep. Chris Stewart.

In the letter, the Members condemn the leak: “The timing of the leak indicates that this illegal act was politically motivated with the intention of interfering in the upcoming November election. As former military pilots, we find the leaking of a veteran’s personal information by the Air Force for political purposes is especially egregious and should not be tolerated… This gross and illegal violation of Lt. Col. Green’s privacy must be dealt with immediately, and the individual(s) involved must be held accountable. We look forward to your response.”

The letter also includes a series of questions as to who the leaker was, what steps are being taken to refer this individual for prosecution, and how the Air Force plans to prevent future leaks from occurring.

Lt. General Davis,

Recent reports indicate the Air Force has taken full responsibility for the public release of the confidential personnel records of Lt. Col. Jennifer-Ruth Green, who is a candidate for Indiana’s 1st Congressional District. The timing of the leak indicates that this illegal act was politically motivated with the intention of interfering in the upcoming November election. As former military pilots, we find the leaking of a veteran’s personal information by the Air Force for political purposes is especially egregious and should not be tolerated.

We ask that you respond to the following questions in writing by November 4, 2022.

  1. What is the status of your investigation?
  2. What steps are being taken to identify the individual(s) involved in disseminating this information?
  3. Are there any emails sent from an Air Force server related to the transfer of these documents to outside individual(s) or organizations outside of the Air Force?
  4. If your office has identified these individual(s), have you referred their cases to the Department of Justice for prosecution?
  5. Is your office also recommending to the Department of Justice that they also pursue charges against the organizations who knowingly disseminated these illegally obtained records?
  6. Has your office identified any other individual(s) who may have had their confidential personnel records improperly accessed? If there have been cases of these files being improperly accessed, have you alerted those individuals?
  7. What immediate steps have been taken to prevent further improper releases of confidential personnel records?

This gross and illegal violation of Lt. Col. Green’s privacy must be dealt with immediately, and the individual(s) involved must be held accountable. We look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

August Pfluger, Member of Congress

Jake Ellzey, Member of Congress

Mike Garcia, Member of Congress

C. Scott Franklin, Member of Congress
