Rep. Roy Commends Texas Legislature, Abbott for Backing Election Integrity Bill

On Tuesday, I issued the following statement in response to Governor Greg Abbott’s signature of Texas’ SB1 election integrity bill:

I applaud the Texas Legislature for passing SB1, Governor Abbott for signing it, and both for taking a strong step forward to better secure Texas’ elections.

While Democrats — who abandoned their duties in Austin to advocate for a federal election takeover from D.C. — may deceptively call this ‘Jim Crow 2.0,’ the facts tell a different story. This bill contains commonsense measures, such as requiring identification for mail-in-ballots, preventing the chaos of unsolicited mail-in ballots, and enhancing protections for poll watchers. This is a necessary step to ensure a secure election process and restore public confidence in our Texas elections.

The people of Texas, just like every other state of this Union, deserve elections we can trust completely; any amount of fraud that undermines confidence in our elections is too much.  I congratulate my friends, Senator Bryan Hughes and Representative Andrew Murr as well as the other members of the Texas legislature who put in the hard work needed to pass this critical legislation.
