Rep. Roy Re-Introduces Legislation to Defund the United Nations

Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) re-introduced the Disengaging Entirely From the United Nations Debacle (DEFUND) Act of 2025 on Thursday, a bill that would defund the United Nations.

Congressman Roy said: "The United Nations has enjoyed American tax money while often undermining our interests, attacking our allies, and bolstering our adversaries.

What has the United Nations achieved? Despite all of the money and the attention, this corrupt globalist organization has for decades, failed to prevent wars, genocides, human rights violations, and even pandemics.

Rather, from its support of terrorism through UNRWA, to parroting CCP talking points during COVID at the WHO, to the Orwellian agenda of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), to the Israel-hating UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), it’s clear the UN and its bodies do not advance the interests of the American people.

No sane country would stand for this.

That’s why I’m proud to lead the DEFUND Act, alongside my good friend Senator Mike Lee and Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Mike Rogers, to withdrawal from the United Nations and take our money with us."

“The United Nations has devolved into a platform for tyrants and a venue to attack America and her allies. We should stop paying for it. As President Trump revolutionizes our foreign policy by putting America first, we should withdraw from this sham organization and prioritize real alliances that keep our country safe and prosperous.” - Senator Mike Lee (R-UT)

Co-sponsors of the bill in the House of Representatives include Representatives Mike Rogers (AL-03), Eli Crane (AZ-02), Diana Harshbarger (TN-01), Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13), Harriett Hageman (WY-AL), Josh Brecheen (OK-06), Thomas Massie (KY-04), and Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14).

Co-sponsors of the bill in the Senate include Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).
