Take the 2020 Census!

Once every ten years, the federal government conducts a census of the entire population to count everyone in the United States and record basic information about them. Our nation’s founders believed this data was so important that they mandated the decennial census in the Constitution! But as of August 4th, only 57.9% of Texans have responded.

Why is the Census important?

The Census is much more than just a head count.

It provides a picture of our nation that helps determine the distribution of more than $675 billion in federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities. That money is spent on things like schools, hospitals, roads, public works and other vital programs.

It’s also crucial for accurate government representation. After each decade’s census, state officials redraw the boundaries of the congressional and state legislative districts in their states to account for population shifts.

Make sure you’re counted!

Responding to the Census is quick and easy. This year, for the first time ever, the U.S. Census Bureau will accept responses by mail, online and by phone until the deadline on September 30th

Your privacy is important – strict federal laws protect your census responses. It is against the law for any Census Bureau employee to disclose or publish any census information that identifies an individual or business.
