For the first time in the 221 year history of the United States House of Representatives, the Constitution of the United States of America was read allowed in the hallowed chamber. One day after being sworn in as Speaker of the House, John Boehner began today's reading with the preamble.
Yesterday Speaker Boehner dedicated the 112th Congress to the will of the people and the Constitution of the United States. In his speech Boehner said of Congress "This is the people's house. This is their Congress. It's about them, not about us. What they want is a government that's honest, accountable, and responsive to their needs - a government that respects individual liberty, honors our heritage, and bows before the public that it serves."
