The Farm Workforce Modernization Act Makes Progress in the House

The Farm Workforce Modernization Act is ready for a vote in the House of Representatives. It has 25 Republican and 28 Democrat co-sponsors. It is great to see Democrat and Republican lawmakers finally working on immigration legislation.

If the bill passes through the House and Senate and gets the president's signature, it will:

• Create a method for undocumented agricultural workers to earn their legal status.

• Improve the H-2A visa program by allowing more flexibility for agricultural employers.

• Establish an improved mandatory E-Verify system nationwide for the agricultural industries

This bill is a good step in the right direction, and its progress thus far is encouraging. However, it only applies to agriculture.

Our lawmakers should get to work on similar bills for construction, manufacturing, and hospitality, etc. Why limit this bill to agriculture? Include the rest of America! 

Change the name! Call it Workforce Modernization Act.

It’s past time that we “modernize” our nation’s broken immigration system and create a method for the 11 million undocumented workers to earn their legal status so we can ID and tax them and require them to work for employers who deduct and match taxes.

Please contact your lawmaker and tell them you support the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, and you want it expanded to include other industries.
