Deportation: Is It Even a Viable Option?

Deportation of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants has always been and remains a contentious issue. At a time when all liberty loving Texans are concerned with the worrisome growth in federal law enforcement resources and domestic spying, do we really need to add more federal “cops” for any purpose – even mass deportation?

If and when these federal immigration police have completed the task of deporting 12 million people, what purpose will they then serve? In other words, do you want to live in a country with police power to deport 12 million people – particularly in light of the egregious errors of another federal police force, the ATF – Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The ATF operation, “Fast and Furious,” is a classic example of federal law enforcement run amuck.

Agricultural Commissioner Todd Staples has the same concern. Todd is an immigration reform proponent who supports background checks and fines for those here illegally before they obtain guest worker status and start working and paying taxes. Commissioner Staples chaired the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture Committee that adopted a resolution calling for a guest worker program. In a June 14, 2012 article in the San Antonio Express News, Commissioner Staples stated, “[N]o one should want a government big enough to round up that many people.”
