Kay Bailey Hutchison On Leaving the Senate and Running For Governor

In a Houston Chronicle article, Peggy Fikac interviews GOP Texas gubernatorial primary candidate, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Kay Bailey Hutchison on whether she'd still be running for governor if she weren't a mom:

"It's not — people have said, 'Oh, she wants to raise her children in Texas.' Well, anyone wants to raise their children in Texas to make sure they have the Texas influence, but, no, this is the time for me to leave the Senate. It is. And I've always wanted to be governor."
"… I think I can do more here in Austin, building the Republican Party to a strong majority and addressing the issues facing Texas, and that's why I'm running for governor."

Kay Bailey Hutchison on leaving the Senate and moving on:

"I think this is the time to leave the Senate. And you know, if I don't win the governorship, I'm going to start a new career."
"I thinks I will be governor. [But if not], I'm going to move on. … I want to earn money and support my children and the things that will put them in a very strong position for the future.”
