Pfluger Introduces Bill To Block President Biden From Expanding Abortion Access Through Public Health Emergency

U.S. Congressmen August Pfluger (TX-11) and Chris Smith (NJ-4) introduced the Prohibiting Federal Emergencies for Abortion Act. The legislation follows reports that the Biden Administration may declare a public health emergency to expand access to abortion services nationwide. The bill would block the abuse of this executive authority granted under the Public Health Service Act, including other emergency declarations under the National Emergencies Act and the Stafford Act. The legislation has been introduced in the Senate by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL).

Rep. August Pfluger: “President Biden wants to declare a whole-of-government war against pro-life states. His radical, anti-life administration is threatening to declare a public health emergency to accelerate taxpayer-funded research for life-ending abortion drugs and expand abortion drug access nationwide. It is completely unsettling that a measure meant to protect the health and safety of Americans could be used to kill unborn children and endanger the safety and well-being of their mothers. I am proud to introduce legislation alongside Representative Smith and Senator Rubio to ensure President Biden cannot declare a public emergency to expand abortions.”
