Rig Explosion in Gulf of Mexico, Rescue is Underway

The Vermillion Oil rig 380, owned by Houston-based Mariner Energy, has exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, eighty miles off the coast of Louisiana. There were thirteen people on the rig at the time of explosion, and all have been accounted for. One person is injured, otherwise, everyone is reported to be okay. The injured worker is being taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, LA. The remaining workers are in the water in immersion suits waiting to be rescued.

The incident is still under investigation. U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Bill Colclough told CNN:

"We don't know what caused the rig to catch on fire...there are reports the rig was not actively producing any product, so we don't know if there's any risk of pollution."

Let's hope for the best!
