Pete Sessions Addresses Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting

On February 14, our nation watched in horror as a deranged and unstable former student of Stoneman Douglas High School killed 17 innocent people. Tragedies like these should never happen especially in schools. No parent should ever have to fear sending their children off to school in the morning and no student or teacher should ever feel unsafe in a classroom. This extraordinarily difficult situation has struck the hearts of every American across the country.

While I believe that we need to take action and do something to prevent future tragedies like this from happening, there is not a quick fix or one single solution. That is why this week my team and I met withthe Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Dallas Division to discuss ways that we can improve protocols and create best practices so we can stop these senseless tragedies. I deeply thank the bureau for their willingness to work with us to protect our local communities. Our meeting was just the first step in our efforts to coordinate with local officials and schools to ensure that everyone understands their role in protecting our students. This will not be easy but I want to make clear that I am dedicated to ensuringthe safety and security of all North Texans especially our children.
