Results From My Delegation Visit to Mexico: A Key Victory in the Fight Against Fentanyl

This week — three days after my delegation returned home from Mexico — the Mexican Senate authorized 19 U.S. Navy SEALs to enter Mexico and conduct a joint training exercise with the Mexican Navy and Marines. This was a key objective of my visit to Mexico, and I am grateful the Mexican Senate acted so quickly on our recommendation.

This exercise will strengthen our ability to interdict illicit shipments at sea — particularly from Chinese vessels carrying precursor chemicals that are used to manufacture fentanyl. It is critical that we stop this poison before it reaches port, where cartels process it into fentanyl and traffic it into our nation.

By enhancing intelligence-sharing and naval capabilities, we can intercept dangerous shipments before they reach our shores and better protect American communities from poisonous drugs.
