Statement On The Conrad-Gregg Commission
Today, I issued the following statement after the Senate voted down the Conrad Amendment to H.J. Resolution 45, a proposal that would have created a bipartisan commission to propose long range steps to relieve the mounting debt facing the nation:
This Senate must reduce the debt and stop wasteful, unprecedented deficit spending. Instead, the majority has passed a trillion-dollar stimulus bill, approved appropriations bills that included double-digit increases over the previous year, and cut backroom deals to force through a $2.5 trillion government takeover of our health care system.
The Conrad-Gregg Commission would have forced Congress to debate how to bring fiscal discipline to the federal government and helped put a stop to wasteful spending.
