Statement on President Obama’s Health Care Address

I issued this statement today following the President’s speech on health care:

Today, you heard the President who promised transparency embrace the product of backroom deals and political payoffs. You heard the President who promised to be ‘post-partisan’ embrace the hyper-partisan reconciliation tactic. This from the same President who said previously – on numerous occasions – that health care reform shouldn’t be passed with just 51 votes. No matter how he tries to spin it, he can’t fool the American people.

The American people have made it abundantly clear that they do not want a job-killing, one-size-fits-all, $2.3 trillion dollar, Washington takeover of our health care system. Instead, they want a step-by-step approach that tackles the real problems in our health care system, and one that lowers costs for American families and taxpayers. That is what I will continue to pursue for all Americans.
