Republicans Stall the Passage of the $1.1 Trillion Spending Bill by Reading all 1,924 Pages on Senate Floor

The Democrats want to pass a $1.1 trillion spending omnibus spending bill before reading it (sound familiar?) However, in order to counter this reckless passage of the bill, Republicans have told clerks to read every single one of its 1,924 pages on the Senate Floor, which is expected to take 50 hours.

“If [the Democrats] bring this up, they’re going to read it. It’ll take them a day or two to read it,” DeMint said on Fox News. “Again, we’re trying to run out the clock. They should not be able to pass this kind of legislation in a lame-duck Congress.”

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell has offered an alternative one-page resolution, co-sponsored by Senator John Cornyn, that would fund the government through Feb. 18th without having to pass this massive spending bill.
